Wow.... amazing................ there is no doubt this cyclone developed a warm (and quite deep) core, as was seen in WRF analisys in 850 and 500 hPa...

In 2011, NOAA Sab was  triggered tracking of tropical cyclones for the Mediterranean, and in November 2011 he cataloged the first (tropical storm 01M).

The same process:tropical transition - extratropical cyclone--> subtropical cyclone--> tropical cyclone
Even TC Karl 1980, Charly 1980, Alberto 1988, Michael 2000, Vince 2005, Epsilon 2005, Grace 2009, Chris 2012 and other derived from an extratropical cyclone.
ThIS Storm caused damages and floods in Lampedusa, Lipari, Linosa, Malta and over extremly coast of Sicily during the night:
Malta Baia di San Paolo 153 Km/h - 979 Hpa
Lampedusa 135 Km/h 992 Hpa
Malta Lequa 106 Km/h - 984 Hpa
Linosa 95 Km/h - 982 Hpa
Catania 95 Km/h - 996 Hpa (50 km dal centro)

Preciosa estructura 

In my city, Rome, impressive rapid passage of cumulonimbus this morning, with low base (600 m ca.) rain and moderate wind, 1000 Hpa.
But the cyclone rapidly weakened approx the Latium coast, and the center storm landfall 100 km North West of Rome. The webcams of those places showed very intensive wind and precipitation. This storm have a 150 km in diameter and 997 Hpa in the center; I believe that wind of Tropical Storm intensity at 20-50 km around the center. Was the radar shows that the part most intense of this storm it was over the sea, west of the eye.

A depression or storm developed on the 8-9 September 2015.
IT Is not very well developed cause the vicinity of the Sicily and italian peninsula.
IT caused floods over Calabria & Sicily (Augusta 160mm in 1h); In particular a very intense and big V-Shaped storm formed south east of the center low, in open sea.
Sicily fortunately was not under the monstruos V-Shaped storm (or it would be dramatic). A big mesocyclone evident inside the big thunderstorm.
